Building RC Plane Under 250 grams (Part 1)

Building RC plane is not easy, choosing brushless motor is already very confusing. There are so many parameter need to consider (motor size, motor weight, propeller size, battery size, etc) 😡

In the end, I asked ChatGPT πŸ˜‚, I summaries ChatGPT answer on the table below.

In conclusion, to be able to fly without license, I need to built something under 250 grams. Based on the table, 2212 that I bought is suitable for 300 grams and above. I bought the wrong motor, waste money 😑, should asked ChatGPT earlier, part of learning πŸ˜‘.

I took measurement on components that I have in hand using kitchen scale
  • 2212 motor = 61.21 grams
  • 30A ESC = 25.59 grams
  • Receiver = 30.20 grams
  • 3x servo = 31.95 grams
  • 2x 18650 battery = 100++ grams
Total 248.95 grams excluding the airframe 😭.

I ask my good friend ChatGPT to recommend RC plane design with target weight of 200 grams (keep 50 grams for margin) and the answer:
  • Wingspan: 60-80 cm (100 grams)
  • Motor 1806 or 2204 (15-25 grams)
  • ESC: 10A - 20A (8-15 grams)
  • Battery: 2S or 3S LiPo 500-800mAh (30-50 grams)
  • Servo: 5 grams each (need 2-3, 15 grams) they have 3 grams servo but max operating is 4.2V
  • Propeller: 5 grams
Assuming all at maximum, total weight 210 grams, look like it is still do able 😌. ChatGPT did not include receiver weight which is 30 grams, luckily I keep 50 grams margin.

1806 brushless motor and ESC ordered, it will take about 2 weeks to arrive.
