Hovercraft Rev1
While waiting for part, decided to try to make hovercraft. I have all the component necessary, I hope π. I list down component that I can think of below:
Receiver = 30.20 grams
Servo = 4.92 grams
2x 10A ESC = 29.1 (14.55 grams each)
2x 1806 motor = 37.42 grams (18.71 grams each)
2x 5045 propeller = 8.66 grams (4.33 grams each)
Total 110.3 grams
Estimate hovercraft body = 50 grams
Battery = 2S or 3S? 650mAh (59 grams) or 1000mAh (82 grams)? I will decide later based on how much hovercraft final weight.
Using plastic cardboard and cut it as shown picture below to create support for the skirting.
I'm using black plastic for the skirting. First glue the blue area and stick the plastic. Once dry, flip over and cut the center hole then glue the yellow area and stick the plastic.
I'm using Styrofoam for the upper part. The most difficult is cutting the hole for the propeller. I was using pen knife, probably better if I have proper Styrofoam cuter
Total weight 72 grams (body weight alone 72-18.71-4.33-14.55 = 34.41 grams).
1806 with 5045 propeller 2 blade = 23.04 grams weight, 230 grams thrust, max 7.19A current
1806 with 6045 propeller 2 blade = 250 grams thrust, max 10.7A (need bigger ESC, my ESC only rating 10A)
Good news is it work, it can float but bad news is the whole thing spining π π π . Chat GPT told me it is because too strong motor torque. I tried changing the propeller pitch and change to smaller propeller but unfortunately it is still spinining although slower. I guess have to re-design. I'm thinking to put 2 motor CW and CCW on Rev2 that should solve the spinning issue. π€
